Bahamian Straw, Reimagined

There’s something powerful about seeing culture preserved, reimagined, and worn with pride. Recently, I had the opportunity to photograph a collection from Coco Reef Craft Company, a Bahamian jewelry brand that transforms traditional straw work into modern, wearable art.

Bahamian straw craftsmanship has deep roots in our history. It’s a skill passed through generations; symbolic of resilience, creativity, and care. Coco Reef Craft Company takes that heritage and elevates it into something beautifully contemporary. Each piece is thoughtfully handmade, blending design with texture, simplicity with statement.

The Vision Behind the Shoot

The goal of this shoot was to present the jewelry in a way that felt:

Rather than overpowering the pieces with excessive styling, the focus remained on the craftsmanship — the weave, the detail, the story in the material itself. We used natural light, minimal styling, and a contrasting background to ensure the spotlight remained on the artistry. The result is imagery that feels timeless, intentional, and deeply Bahamian.

Why This Matters
